Dr Rakesh Kumar Sah is a seniorLaparoscopic gastro Surgeon in the country presently working at Grande International Hospital Kathmandu (NEPAL).He achieved his super speciality degree (Mch HPB and gastro surgery)from postgraduate institute of medical education and research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, India(one of the premier institute of the country). He is the first in the country to start bariatric surgery (a type of surgery performed to treat morbidObesity). He specialises in gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and bariatric surgery. He has contributed significantly in raising the public awareness regarding gall bladder diseases, pancreatic diseases and morbid obesity through various articles and interviews in the media both print and audiovisual.

Early Life and education
Dr Sah was born on 09/09/1979 in small village inarwa of Dhanushadistrict (Now Pradesh 2) of Nepal from mother Ishwari Devi Sah and father Ganga Prasad Sah. He completed his primary education from his village school Shree Rastriya Janta Praththmik Bidhyalaya and joined Janaki secondary boarding school at Janakpurdham (Nepal) to complete SLC (now SEE). He completed his 10+2 from C L DAV panchkula in haryana India.
Medical education and carrier
Dr Sah joined the MBBS course at BPKIHS Dharan, an eastern town in Nepal in the year 2000. After completion of the MBBS,he worked with the government of Nepal and started to deliver his medical service through primary health center in the Morang district with a motive to learn the basic health need of the country and the disease prevalent in the country.
Dr Sah got selected to persue his MS in General surgery in PGIMER Chandigarh India in July 2007 at PGIMER Chandigarh India. He successfully completed his MS in General surgery in June 2010.
After completion of MS, in general surgery Dr Sah started practicing surgery at college of medical sciences,Bhartapur as a lecturer. His thirst for the super-specialization degree and training motivated him to work hard. He was fortunate to be selectto persue Mch in HPB and surgical gastroenterology from PGIMER Chandigarh India in January 2011 after a competitive entrance examination. He was the first in the country to achieve this milestone form the reputed institute PGIMER Chandigarh. After successful completion of superspecialisation in HPB and surgical gastroenterology in December 2013, he returned to serve the people of Nepal with the advanced training he has received in the field of surgical gastroenterology. He joined as an assistant professor in February 2014 at Nepal medical college jorpati Kathmandu and served thereuntilJanuary 2015. He is practicing at Grande international hospital Kathmandu Nepal since February 2015.
Dr Sah has completed more than 5000 successful abdominal surgery in the short span of time. He has special interest in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. He has pioneered bariatric surgery in the country and he is credited as a first to start bariatricsurgery in the country. He has a special interest in the development of minimal invasive surgery.
